Prices shown are for seat sizes 14", 15", 16" or 17", but we can build draft saddles for bigger riders in 18", 19, 20", 21" and the Draft Roper Saddle (only that model) comes in a 22" as well.  E'mail us at mtmountainhorse@yahoo.com for oversized seat pricing.      

We can also build all the tack you need to match your draft saddle:  draft-sized breast collars, rear cinches, headstalls, cruppers, breeching, etc.  We carry cinches for your draft horse as well.   

These saddles are built on a wood tree that is specifically designed to comfortably fit your draft or draft cross horse.  Draft trees come with bars that are built flatter to fit the draft horse's wider back comfortably.

Dispelling a myth:  We have had customers tell us that their draft needs a 9", 10", 11" gullet or bigger.  However, the measurement they are referring to is NOT the gullet width.  The largest the gullet can be is 8"...any larger than that and the tree would collapse in on itself.  Simple physics!  The measurement they may be referring to is the distance between the inside of the bars.  The way our draft tree is designed with flatter, wider bars, we successfully fit all draft horses with either a 7", 7.5" or 8" gullet.

Some quick notes: 

We have successfully built saddles for several different breeds of draft horses including Percherons, Clydesdales, Belgians, Shires, Spotted Drafts, American Creams and other draft breeds including draft crosses/draft mules.

We also have the ability to fit the Friesian horses with our specially designed Friesian tree.  This Friesian tree design only works with certain models of our Gaited Saddles and adds additonal cost .  E'mail us at mtmountainhorse@yahoo.com for more information about our Friesian saddles. 

We also build saddles for the smaller draft types like the Fjords, Haflingers, Gypsy Vanners and North American Curly horses.  For these breeds, we custom build draft wood trees with the bars of the tree shortened and skirts on the saddle shortened. 

We can build the draft tree gullet in a 7", 7.5" or 8"...and we can even build an extra wide bar width if necessary.

Features on most draft horse saddles:

The draft saddle tree is fiberglass covered wood for strength and durability.
Available in seat sizes from 15"-17" at standard price and special orders 18"-21".  We can also build youth saddles in 13" or 14".   

Comes with a synthetic felt pad on the underside of the saddle, but you can choose to upgrade to mock or real wool fleece.

Comes with nylon latigo and off billet. You can upgrade to a leather latigo and an extra long draft off billet

Mountain Horse Saddles are custom built saddles.  So when you place your order, then we will build the saddle to your specifications.  Saddle builds take approx 3-8 weeks, depending on the time of year, the options you choose and how busy our saddle maker is.  We will let you know when you place your order approximately how long the build will take.
